A Note From Bob

July, 2003

Greetings all. We´re in Europe at the moment with the Yellowjackets in Berlin. I would like to describe the last 48 hours to give you some idea what an European tour generally entails.

Friday night we played on the island of Madera, off the coast of Africa. Our concert ended around 1 AM. We went back to the hotel to clean up and went directly to the airport to catch
a 6 AM flight. Upon arrival, we discovered that this flight had been cancelled. We were rerouted to Lisbon, changed planes to Frankfurt, then changed again to Berlin. Went to do a sound check, had dinner, played a concert, and collapsed. Quite a wild ride!

I urge you all to check out the new Tower of Power CD Oakland Zone. It is great! It is the band in its glory with that unmistakeable groove and vibe. I havent stopped listening to it since I bought the cd.

Also check out the Lewis Porter book on John Coltrane. It is the most comprehensive Coltrane book to date. I loved all the musical examples and anecdotes from all the musicians that were interviewed. After all these years of being a Coltrane devotee, it was nice to get a fresh perspective on the man and his music. A great read!

Gotta run. We´re off to Spain today. Talk to you later.

Peace and health to all of you,
Bob Mintzer
